Judges at this year's National Eisteddfod have taken the rare decision not to award what is widely regarded as the Festvial's top prize, the Chairing of the Bard. Judges reached the decision after deciding that the quality of entries fell slightly short of their expectations for awarding the prize. The decision, which was described in an Eisteddford statement as 'disappointing', was made in order to preserve standards in the ancient competition which has been run since 1880.
It was not all bad news, however, judges hailed the talent among entrants which they described as having the ability to win the competition in the future. A full report on the decision is available on the Eisteddfod website. |
