American author Claire Vaye Watkins has been announced as the winner of this year's prestigious Dylan Thomas Prize. The 29 year old author was awarded the prize for her collection of short stories entitled Battleborn at a ceremony in Swansea's National Waterfront Museum.
Seven authors had been shortlisted for the £30,000 prize, including Welsh writer Jemma L King and judges had previously praised the high standard of shortlist which Chair of the Prize, Peter Stead, described as an indication 'of the truly international scope of the prize'. The Prize was established in 2006 with Rachel Trezise awarded the first ever title, other previous winners have included Nam Le and Maggie Shipstead. |
