Congratulations to Patrick McGuinness on being nominated for the prestigious 2012 Writers Guild Award for ‘Best Fiction Book’. The Last Hundred Days was published by Seren Books earlier this year and joins two other titles short-listed for the award. The winners will be announced on 14th November.
Cillian Press will host the launch of Chris Keil's latest novel Flirting at the Funeral in Waterstones, Carmarthen on Tuesday 25th September. Keil's previous novels The French Thing and Liminal have achieved high acclaim both in Wales and internationally.
The launch starts at 6.30pm and Cillian Press request that you advise them in advance if you are planning to attend as the venue has a limited capacity. Visit their website for further details. The Menai Bridge Book Fair will take place from 10am - 4pm on Saturday 22nd September at Ysgol David Hughes. Admission is just £1 and the fair will feature stalls selling both new, modern, old and antique books in English and Welsh.
Dai Smith, Professor in the Cultural History of Wales at Swansea University and Series Editor of the Library of Wales books, will be discussing the collection in a Newport and Gwent Literary Society lecture on Wednesday 26th September. The lecture will consider the aims of the series and the role it is playing in bringing Wales' rich literary heritage to new audiences.
The lecture takes place at The Holiday Inn in Newport at 6.30pm. Advance booking is essential and tickets are priced £18, which includes dinner. For more information on how to book tickets please click here. Seren poet Rhian Edwards is one of six poets specially selected to read at the Inpress Poetry Garden Market on Saturday 15th September. A range of other events, including close readings of the guest poets work, will take place throughout the d Wales' National poet Gillian Clarke and Paul Henry will be reading at The Bear Hotel in Crickhowell on Friday 21st September in an event organised by Book-ish. The evening starts at 7.30pm and further information is available from the Book-ish website.
Welsh publishing houses Seren and Cinnamon Press will be showcasing at the Poetry Book Fair in London this Saturday. Seren will be presenting readings from Dai George and Judy Brown at 1.30pm.
The event website contains the full programme for this year. Ruth Bidgood & Anne Cluysenaar will be reading from Above the Forests and Migration in an event in Breacon's The Hours Bookshop on Tuesday 11th September. It all starts at 3pm and entry is free.
