Francesca Rhydderch has been named as one of five authors shortlisted for the BBC National Short Story Award, securing a place with her short story 'The Taxidermist's Daughter'. The competition, run in partnership with the Book Trust, offers a £15,000 prize for the winning author.
The shortlist is the third all-female list in the competition's nine year history and also includes stories by Rose Tremain, Tessa Hadley, Lionel Shirver and Zadie Smith. BBC Radio 4 will be broadcasting a reading of each of the shortlisted stories every day next week, ahead of the announcement of the winner on 30th September.
