American author Joshua Ferris has been named as the winner of the 2014 International Dylan Thomas Prize. The author, who lives in New York, won the £30,000 prize for his third novel To Rise Again at a Decent Hour. The winner was announced at a special ceremony held in Swansesa's National Waterfront Museum and was chosen by a panel of judges, chaired by Hay Festival founder Peter Florence.
This year's shortlist had included Welsh author Owen Sheers, alongside writers including Eleanor Catton, Eimear McBride and Naomi Wood. Earlier in the Autumn the shortlisted authors had visited Dylan Thomas's boathouse in Laugharne as part of the build-up to the announcement of this year's winner.
